The Board of Health is responsible for performing duties relative to the
protection of public health, disease control, the promotion of sanitary living conditions, and the protection of the envirnment from damage and pollution as required by state and local laws.
The three members of the Westhampton Board of Health are appointed by the Selectboard for overlapping three year terms. The board works closely with the Health Agent on all matters of Public Health. Some duties of the Health Agent include inspections of septic systems; issues permits and
enforces minimum sanitation standards for food establishments; conducts
annual inspection, issues permit, and enforces state sanitation codes of recreational camps (campgrounds); condemn dwellings unfit for human
habitation and place order to occupant to either: vacate, clean up, or tear down a condemned dwelling.
The Transfer Station is under the supervision of the Highway Department
Superintendent. Solid waste and hazardous waste are under the control of theTransfer Station/Higway Department.
